I am trying to import .md files exported from Notion., but Mem does not recognize the format. I also tried changing from .md to .txt, it seems to grab it and upload it, but then nothing happens.
Hi there!
I'm the developer of Yarle, thank you for mentioning it!
As far as I remember, the last time when I tested, most of the features seemed to be supported except the links between notes. But as Evernote notes can be imported into mem directly, I did not feel the vibe to support Mem by Yarle. Honestly, I don't really see any added value which could Yarle bring into this import flow. What is your opinion?
Thanks for clarifying. I'm trying to find an automated method for importing my notes from ReadWise into meme, and it appears that Evernote is the simplest method for doing this. Still, I can't find a way to make it automated that doesn't involve a zapier pro account.
Please add an Option to apply folder names from the imported file structure as hashtags
I just tried importing several Markdown exports from Apple Notes via the Exporter App on the App Store and the import Flow on MacOS desktop. (Weblinks look to be incorrectly handled in the Exporter App at this point in time but I have made the developer aware)
The first thing I wanted to do was to recreate my folder structure and categories the newly imported Mems in some way. With 100s imported this will be a very labour intensive task. Since the Exporter app replicates Note folders in the exported folder structure and Mem doesn't use folders but hashtags instead it would be great to the option of having Folder structures automatically translated to hashtags.
To enable further organisation it would be great to be able to select a bunch of Mem's and drag and drop a hashtag from a structured list onto them, adding that tag to them all at once.
All this would make onboarding new users much easier.
Importing the creation and modification dates which I had the Exporter App include in the markdown and having these applied as the actual creation and modification date of the newly created/imported Mems would also be really helpful.
A way to accommodate many import formats would be to allow users to upload data via json according to the same schema that is currently used for the json export. Then users can mangle their data how they like from the many multitude of platforms! Obviously it's nicer to have it done automatically but we can't expect you to get importing working for every platform.
OneNote. Hear me out. Most large employers have Microsoft 365 and everyone is stuck using OneNote. People want other note taking tools but no one is going to start from 0. Without the ability to easily import, you won't get anywhere. Most note apps ignore OneNote or the facilitation of OneNote notes importing, and I think Mem could lead the way in helping make the transition much easier for people who really would take anything other than OneNote.
To import your notes from other applications, go to Flows from the left sidebar and click on the Imports tile. There you'll find various options for instructions to import your data from other apps.
Please ignore the main question. I see that the feature has already been implemented. However, I am noticing that the tags have not been brought in, even though they are included in the Evernote export. Is this a known issue?
I just noted these as separate feature requests, but importing for Kindle and Instapaper highlights and/or comments would be great - more of an ongoing or easily repeatable import than a one off batch load.
Hey everyone 👋 I’ve got some great news! We’ve made some good progress on Imports and are going to open it up as a private beta for folks who want to help test it out with their data. So email me at mike@mem.ai with your mem user email address if you'd like to be a part of the private beta and import your Roam, Notion, Bear, iA writer, markdown or Obsidian files 🌈🎉
I had a little try at Obsdidian before finding Mem, so would be great to import those notes.
I have stacks of notes in OneNote (previously in Evernote) - I'm not sure if I'd want to import them, also most of them are taken with Apple pencil, not text.
Since Obsidian uses Markdown files, you can set up a Zapier between a Dropbox folder and Mem and then import the Markdown files into the Dropbox folder and they will be added to Mem. I did this with exported Notion pages.
Hi All! Fyi: I plan to improve my cross-platform Evernote converter desktop app called Yarle(github.com/akosbalasko/yarle) to support direct import to Mem via API.

I'm missing CSV imports - like for bookmarks etc

Can you assist on the text import formatting as well

+1 I cannot fully convert to mem until I can export from evernote and import into mem
Anthony Iannarino
The most important upgrade must be the ability to be able to add mems on past and future dates, followed by exports, followed by a prettier task list.
Sumit Khanna
I imported 1314 mems from Notion and now mem stopped working.
Francis Pisani
Yes much needed. Game changer for who has taken notes for a long time

Has anyone done an import via Bear.app to Mem? I see Mike Soylu you mentioned Markdown, which in this instance might be the best option.

I see that the status for this is Live. Does that mean the feature is available for use?
Tom Solid
@mike would be great to see a link that shows us how to use this feature, now that it is live.

Any ETA for the Evernote import? Want to be able to bring in my 7+ years of notes into Mem.

Please ignore the main question. I see that the feature has already been implemented. However, I am noticing that the tags have not been brought in, even though they are included in the Evernote export. Is this a known issue?

When importing from Evernote, would be ideal if we could selectively import based on notebooks and/or tags.
Sam Minnée
I just noted these as separate feature requests, but importing for Kindle and Instapaper highlights and/or comments would be great - more of an ongoing or easily repeatable import than a one off batch load.

Great suggestion Sam. I‘d vote for kindle highlight import too.

Is importing from OneNote also coming?
Michel Goedegebuure
How about OneNote, is that also supported for import?

Waiting for Roam + Bear import...

Import should include conversion as well to go from [[ ]] or # in other systems into Mem's + tool
Stefan Bütler
Would really love to see a CSV import and map it to a template to import all my contacts into mem.ai
Marco Ogliengo
Is Evernote import coming, or should we convert it to markdown & import markdown?
Mike Soylu
Hi Marco, Evernote is coming soon as well 👍

I want to import all my pages from Notion. That's the only way I could realistically continue using Mem; my whole life is in Notion!

If you let me import my past 10+ years in Evernote I would switch in an instance

Markdown import would be an absolute game-changer for me.
For those using Roam Research, you can export your entire graph to a zip of Markdown files.
Thomas Rush
@mike Soylu -- seeing you just updated the status to "Planned" -- do you have any sense as to how long this might take to implement?
Mike Soylu
Status changed to: In progress

Another vote for Roam Research

Any chances for RoamResearch import support?
