Definitely support this. Markdown would be awesome as well. Tables/databases enable so much and I think would lead to other interesting applications of Mem’s org ideals and tech
I would love tables. I'm trying to justify moving over from OneNote and Notion for all note taking, but the lack of very simple tables are holding me back
Wow, this seems tough. I love tables as much as the next guy, but doing the interface well seems hard.
I think all of the formatting in mem gets evaluated in real time, so I think tables will require adding new interface concept, either special-case table operations or some sort of dual-mode editing, switching between markdown and rendered versions.
Those both seem sad: One of the beauties of mem is how rarely one uses conventional menus, and putting people in modes is almost always a bad idea.
One way to avoid modes and avoid menu use would be to have a menu on right-click while editing a mem, what is sometimes called a context menu, and one of the items in that menu could be Insert Table, or an Insert submenu with table and other options.
Then table manipulation could be done on right-click menu - add row/column, delete row/column.
Another worry about this feature is that it is the top of a slippery slope. You start with simple tables, then you want borders, and backgrounds, and padding, and minimum heights... Lots of complexity.
mem's clean interface is one of it's primary virtues, and maintaining that as mems get richer and other features are added will be hard. I don't even the designers in this next phase...I'm eager to see how they deliver this feature while thinking ahead to future content enrichment and functional additions.
Even if mem supported Markdown tables, that would be better than no tables. I agree that Mems value is in its simplicity, but I think if Mem just implemented the structure of a basic table, it would only benefit users who are trying to use Mem as a second brain. I understand the slippery slope, but even basic table formats have tremendous value to students and professionals. I am not proposing databases at all.
Any updates on this? I also would love tables. I'm using another system but have a strong preference to move all of my notes to Mem if possible. It'd be great if you could build tables based on a tag, and also build related tables of data based on related tags.
+1 !! This would be super helpful.
Actually I would just like a simple table that can be inserted into a mem, so certain data can be shown in a structured way. Eg, like a grid table that can be inserted into an outlook mail. If simple calculation (eg summation) is possible that will be even better

I would love just simple calculations too
- add/sub/multiply/divide in a table

Yeah, good idea!!

PLEASE allow for full markdown support. That would solve this issue. :D

This would be incredibly useful.

Waiting patiently for this feature. I would love to use Mem for a lot more use cases and Table/Database feature is what is lacking

Everything is great about Mems, tables would be a great feature.

I'd vote for databases as in Podio.

A simple table would be great.

Great to see this in progress. Thanks for your work; tables are difficult but super helpful.

I hope the implementation of tables is as simple as this in the editor

this is the one thing keeping me on Evernote I think.

I have mems for #people and #writers. But I need also to create a table to oversee all of them. Could be very simple, in the Mem-way.

Is it also planned to have basic calculations possible? Like in Airtable where you can aggregate data easily
Mike Soylu
We're actively exploring how we would go about implementing tables as well as structured data in a "Mem" way. We'll keep you posted on the progress 🙌

Structured data in the sense of databases?

Is there any update on a vision for this?
